Hope for the Future (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

Empty Cross, Empty Tomb

You climbed the heights
To storm the depths
Ripping veils of righteousness
Bolding claiming heaven’s throne
Forcing us to deal with pain
Pain unfurled revealed the heart
The need we never would express

The pain we never could compare
To love to joy to righteousness
We never saw it never knew
The clear blue skies of joyful life
We lived in chains we lived in dark
We felt the cold we felt the stain
Until You came to set us free

You came to set us free from sin
The ugly mark that shattered rest
Becoming us to feel the heat
To walk and talk and take the test
You did it all so perfectly
To sympathize so mercifully
You went the whole way to the cross

Went the whole way to the cross
Absorbing every pain and loss
No matter what no matter the cost
The goal was greater than the drain
To wash away the filthy stain
You took everything that came
And now the cross and tomb are empty

Empty cross and empty tomb
Offspring of the virgin’s womb
Fulfilled the law and righteousness
fulfilled every requirement
so we could live in heaven’s warmth
so we could be alive and free
living in Christ’s victory.
