Stimulating Thirst (Matthew 5:13)
Be “salt and light” in your neighborhood!
Four simple steps to becoming an influence among your neighbors. The Four Simple Steps can be used in any context of people you are regularly near. Your “neighborhood” could be the residents who live near you, the people at your work place or at your school.
Be looking for needs and opportunities you can pray for and potentially address in their lives. The needs may be physical, emotional, spiritual, relational difficulties or employment issues.
- Step 1 iAsk
Pray first. Tune your heart with God. Ask for open doors into the lives of your “neighbors.”
I am praying. . .
God, please help me to see my neighbors as You see them. Open my eyes. Open my heart. Grant me understanding. Grant me compassion. Grant me courage. Grant me humility. Take my life. . . I give it to You. Live through me in my neighborhood, among all my acquaintances.
- Step 2 iListen
As you read the scriptures listed in iListen ask God to speak to you and give you understanding for your life. As I read God’s Word, what is He saying to me?
Matthew 5:13-16
Matthew 28:18-20
Mark 16:15
Luke 10:25-37
1 Corinthians 9:19-23
2 Corinthians 5:17-20
1 Peter 3:15
- Step 3 iObserve
Prayerfully walk through your “neighborhood,” asking God to help you see your “neighbors” as He sees them. List your neighbors and the needs you see in the iObserve step. What needs do my neighbors have?

- Step 4 iAct
