The Joy of Repentance, Pt. 2 (Luke 15:1-7)

Repentance is a gospel gift, response, and way of life designed for the glory of God and the flourishing of Christ's Church.

The Provision of Repentance: It is a gracious gospel gift from God.

The Priority of Repentance: It is an expected response to God.

Matthew 3:2, 4:17, 11:20; Mark 1:15, 6:12; Luke 13:1-5, 16:30, 24:47; Acts 2:38, 3:19, 8:22, 17:30, 26:20; Rev. 2:5, 16, 21, 22; 3:3,19

"Conversion is a change so dramatic that it requires the intervention of God the Holy Spirit. In conversion, the Spirit of God grants the twin graces of repentance and faith to sinners who turn from sin and turn to God through faith in Jesus Christ." -Thabiti Anyabwile

"Commitment to Christ, if genuine, must include a commitment to turn from sin. Preaching the need for faith without repentance is preaching only half of the gospel." -Wayne Grudem

Discussion Questions:

  1. Have you repented of your sins and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation? (Acts 16:31; Rom. 10:9; Eph. 2:1-9; John 1:12-13, 3:16.)
  2. Does your life pass the 1 John tests of true conversion? (1 John 1:6-7; 2:15; 2:22-23; 3:14-19; 3:24; 5:1; 5:4-5)
