God’s Truth for Trying Times - 4/21/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 Peter 2:9-12

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.” (1 Peter‬ ‭2:9-12‬)

CONSIDER: These verses are reminding believers of their true identity in Christ, where they came from, and how they can please God. It's striking how often the church is called to live a certain way before the world, and how that affects our gospel ministry. We have received mercy, and it holds back God's wrath against our sin, and blesses us with great acceptance in God's sight. You are a chosen, holy, royal, possessed people. The great privilege to proclaim the excellencies of His who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?

PRAY:‬‬ Pray these verses to God as a prayer. Pour out your heart in praise to God. Pray for others. Present needs to Him.
