God’s Truth for Trying Times - 4/25/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: John 5:25-29

“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.” (John‬ ‭5:25-29‬) 

CONSIDER: Jesus was speaking of a time when the spiritually dead would believe in him and have spiritual life. This is true even today, all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved (Acts 16:31). He was also talking about his resurrection where those in the tombs would come out of their tombs. A miraculous thing brought about by God. He is also talking about judgment. Jesus is the judge and he has been given the right to judge the nations. All those who believe in his finished work on the cross in their place receive his blessing. All those who reject his work and who he is are under the just wrath of God. 

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?

PRAY:‬‬ Pray these verses to God as a prayer. Pour out your heart in praise to God. Pray for others. Present needs to Him.
