God’s Truth for Trying Times - 1/16/22

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: Ephesians 2:1-3 

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. [Ephesians 2:1-3 ESV]

CONSIDER: Before any believer gets saved by Jesus, their condition is that of being totally dead in their sins, and completely unable to save themselves or move towards God. This is why our salvation is completely dependent on the sovereign grace of God. God alone makes the dead to live. The condition of every unbeliever is that they carry out the desires of their hearts and our by nature, at the root, children of wrath destined for distruction until and unless God in mercy intervenes.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?

PRAY: Pray these verses to God as a prayer. Pour out your heart in praise to God. Pray for others. Present needs to Him.
