God’s Truth for Trying Times - 10/10/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 John 3:15-16

Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. [1 John 3:15-16 ESV] 

CONSIDER: The contrast could not be clearer between believers and unbelievers. Jesus laid down his life for believers and we ought to give our lives up for our fellow Christians, we should not be trying to destroy people or express hate towards them. Our love for Christ will show itself in love for fellow believers. That love will be self-sacrificing.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
