God’s Truth for Trying Times - 10/5/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 John 3:4-6

Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. [1 John 3:4-6 ESV]

CONSIDER: These verses make it clear that if someone says they believe in Jesus and are saved from their sins, they won't continue to live as if there is no sacrifice for sins, and they won't continue to live with unrepentant sin. When a believer sins they confess it and want to be cleansed and walk in ways that please God. All of this happens because believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and are convicted of their sins and they realize they need Jesus all the time.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
