God’s Truth for Trying Times - 10/6/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 John 3:7-8

Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. [1 John 3:7-8 ESV] 

CONSIDER: It is very easy to be deceived. These verses are telling us that if someone says they're a believer but lives like an unbeliever, don't be deceived into thinking they're a true believer. Jesus came to conquer the works of the devil and to forgive us and save us from our sins, but if someone is trampling on his work, they are either a wayward believer that needs to repent or they are an unbeliever.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
