God’s Truth for Trying Times - 12/16/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 Timothy 5:3-4 

Honor widows who are truly widows. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God. [1 Timothy 5:3-4 ESV]

CONSIDER: True widows are those who have no family to care for them and support them in their old age. It pleases God when people obey the fifth commandment (honor your father and mother) and rise up and honor their aging parents by blessing and caring for them. 

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?

PRAY: Pray these verses to God as a prayer. Pour out your heart in praise to God. Pray for others. Present needs to Him.
