God’s Truth for Trying Times - 12/23/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: Psalm 61

"Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! Selah For you, O God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. Prolong the life of the king; may his years endure to all generations! May he be enthroned forever before God; appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him! So will I ever sing praises to your name, as I perform my vows day after day." (Psalm 61:1-8 ESV)

CONSIDER: The Psalmist asks God to lead him to the rock that is higher than him. To the refuge. To the fortress. It's awesome because God is that rock. He is the refuge and fortress. And you'll notice that it says that those who fear his name have a heritage. They are kept safe and secure forever by God because of his steadfast love and faithfulness. He is with us always, Emmanuel!

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
