God’s Truth for Trying Times - 3/2/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: Psalm 119:1-8

"[Aleph] Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me!" [Psa 119:1-8 ESV]

CONSIDER: Psalm 119 is the longest psalm. It is organized according to the Hebrew alphabet. Eight verses per letter. It's an acrostic, with every line in each paragraph beginning with the corresponding letter of the Hebrew alphabet. 176 verses, 22 stanzas, one stanza for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and each eight verse stanza begins with that letter of Hebrew alphabet. This psalm is about how blessed the person is who clings to God and his word.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
