God’s Truth for Trying Times - 3/24/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: Psalm 120

"In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? A warrior's sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree! Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!" [Psa 120:1-7 ESV]

CONSIDER: God wants you to pour your heart out to him honestly. This is what the Psalmist does. He knows he lives among people that do not honor God. He knows he lives among people that would rather make war than peace, have unrest rather than reconciliation. Praise God that he is the one who meets us in the midst of distress and saves us from trouble and enemies.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
