God’s Truth for Trying Times - 6/3/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: Matthew 11:28

"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

CONSIDER: Jesus isn't just giving an invitation to have comfort in the midst of pain. He is calling people to salvation. He is calling people to believe in him. It's like in the Old Testament when Noah was born, his parents seemed to think that he might be the Genesis 3:15 Serpent-crusher. His name means one who gives rest. One who gives relief. He was used by God but he was not the promised deliverer. When Jesus says that I will give you rest, he is saying I am the one that was promised to come and save. Come to me and be delivered from your sins. This is the true Sabbath rest for the people of God that Hebrews chapter 4 speaks of, where we rest from our works trying to save ourselves, and rest in Christ's finished work on the cross in our place.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?

PRAY:‬‬ Pray these verses to God as a prayer. Pour out your heart in praise to God. Pray for others. Present needs to Him.
