God’s Truth for Trying Times - 6/7/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 Thessalonians 1:6-8

And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. [1 Thessalonians 1:6-8 ESV] 

CONSIDER: Receiving the word of God in much affliction is evidence of the electing grace of God. The Holy Spirit gives joy even in the mist of suffering. What an example to fellow believers, what an encouragement to keep pressing on to know the Lord and serve him.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
