God’s Truth for Trying Times - 6/8/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10

For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. [1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 ESV] 

CONSIDER: Receiving fellow brothers and sisters in Christ with warm welcoming fellowship is a hallmark of true believers. Testimony of turning to God from idols to serve the true God and wait for the return of Christ is sweet encouragement to the souls of true believers. Jesus delivers us from the wrath to come and our hope is fixed in him.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
