God’s Truth for Trying Times - 7/31/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: James 1:14-15

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. [James 1:14-15 ESV]

CONSIDER: These verses describe the downward spiral of sin. We are lured away and enticed by our own desire to do what is not right. And sin leads to death.This is why we are to pray to God to deliver us from evil. This is why we are to abstain from every appearance of evil. This is why we are to confess our sins to God knowing he is faithful and righteous to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
