God’s Truth for Trying Times - 8/1/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: James 1:16-18

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. [James 1:16-18 ESV]

CONSIDER: There are many things in life that deceive us. It would be easy to take the low road and think that life is against us. But God brings good and bad things into our lives for our good and his glory. In fact the toughest things in life are good and perfect gift from God to grow us in holiness. To grow us strong in faith. To show that the power is not of us but of him. He willed to save us by his word, and he keeps those whom he saves.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
