God’s Truth for Trying Times - 8/13/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: James 2:14-17

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. [James 2:14-17 ESV]

CONSIDER: It does no good to say that you believe in Jesus and he is your Lord if your life shows no evidence at all. If you merely make a profession of faith but there is no fruit in your life, it is absolutely valid to question whether you are saved or not. That doesn't mean that we have to manufacture the fruit, the Spirit of God gives faith and grows the fruit of faith. In other words, anyone who is truly saved, it will be evident in their life.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
