God’s Truth for Trying Times - 8/15/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: James 2:19-20

You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe--and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? [James 2:19-20 ESV]

CONSIDER: It is not enough to say that you believe what God says in the word and that you have good doctrine. It is foolish to only have a profession of faith. There must also be proof of that faith coming out in your life. Yes, someone could fake that. But God knows the heart. And God is the judge of all. He knows who truly belongs to him.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
