God’s Truth for Trying Times - 8/24/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: James 3:7-8

For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. [James 3:7-8 ESV] 

CONSIDER: The tongue cannot be teamed by man on his own, only God can give us the strength and enablement to exercise self-control. The fruit of the Spirit of God, proof that God is at work in our lives, is self control, which includes our speech. In many ways it starts with our speech. And it all comes from our heart.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
