God’s Truth for Trying Times - 9/11/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: ‬‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:8-9‬ ‭‬‬

“Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound!" (2 Timothy‬ ‭2:8-9‬)

CONSIDER: After 9/11 it was popular to put a sign up in your yard that had an American flag on it and it simply said “Never Forget”. It's signified that we should not forget what happened and that we should be vigilant and watchful in protecting our country as good citizens. A lot has happened in those 19 years, and at times it seems that some have forgotten. A price is paid for freedom. There are costs involved in securing it and sustaining it. But there is a much much greater sacrifice, and not only a sacrifice, but a victory over sin and death. When Paul says “Remember Jesus Christ risen from the dead” he is telling us to call to mind the magnificent victory of Christ. He is telling us that the foundation for our faith is fixed and firm and will never falter. The word of God is not bound and what it tells us is true. I love these verses because it points me in the direction of calling to mind what Jesus has done for my soul. And it helps me to celebrate the beauty of Christ in the Gospel and rejoice in his presence.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
