God’s Truth for Trying Times - 9/18/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 John 1:1-4

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life-- the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us-- that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. [1 John 1:1-4 ESV]

CONSIDER: John has been an eyewitness of the glory of Christ and had seen his life and ministry and death. He had also been a witness to the resurrection. He could clearly confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of all and being saved -- having fellowship with the Father and the Son -- could write to fellow believers so that their joy would be full.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
