God’s Truth for Trying Times - 8/28/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: James 3:14-16

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. [James 3:14-16 ESV] 

CONSIDER: God is not the author of confusion and he wants us to walk in wisdom and holiness not evil and selfishness. How do you do that heart check? Is there jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart? How do you know? It'll come out in the way you think about people and talk about people. It will show in the way that you either serve yourself or others.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
