God’s Truth for Trying Times - 4/1/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: Psalm 14

“The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the Lord? There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous. You would shame the plans of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge. Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.” (Psalm 14:1-7‬)

CONSIDER: This song clearly says that anyone who says there is no God is a fool. We sometimes think that means that a fool must be someone who isn’t very intelligent. The Bible clearly says the fool is lacking in sense. But it doesn’t mean they lack smarts. They might be the smartest person on your block, in your class, or on your team. They could have the highest IQ in the hemisphere. But it does not make them wise. A fool is someone who is morally bankrupt. They are without a moral compass. They may look like a good person on the outside, but inside they are full of dead men’s bones. And the thing that reveals it most is that they tell them selves there is no God. They live as if God does not exist. They probably go through life thinking that they are in control of everything.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? What warning is in this psalm? What ray of hope?

PRAY:‬‬ Pray these verses to God as a prayer. Pour out your heart in praise to God. Pray for others. Present needs to Him.
