He Made Him To Be Sin Pt.2
Speaker: Andrew McNeill Series: Topical Topic: Jesus Passage: 2 Corinthians 5:21
Discussion Questions
- Describe in your own words everything that was taking place while Jesus was on the cross.
- What does it mean that the Father “made him (Jesus) to be sin”? Did Jesus become sinful? Did he stop being God for a moment on the cross?
- What is one aspect of salvation that causes you to be amazed at God?
- What does it mean that we “become the righteousness of God”? What impact does this truth have on how you think and how you live?
- List as many blessings as you can that Jesus achieved for you in salvation. (Examples: forgiveness of sin, reconciliation with the Father)
- How do the truths of the gospel change how you treat those you live with or work with?
- If you are willing, share a specific situation this week where you reminded yourself of gospel truth. Think of a time in this coming week where you know you might need to remind yourself of the truth. Rehearse what you will say to yourself in that moment. (Example 1: I know that when “x” scenario happens I will feel like God is against me. When that happens I will remind myself that the Father initiated the plan of salvation (2 Cor. 5:21, Eph. 1:3-5) and is using all his attributes to work all things for my eternal good; that is, to make me like Jesus (Rom. 8:28-29). I will remind myself that God demonstrated his love for me while I was still fighting against him (Romans 5:6). I will remind myself that I deserve nothing better than eternal punishment from God and that he is continually showering mercy and grace on me (Eph. 2:1-4). I will remind myself that because of what happened on the cross, God is now for me, always (2 Cor. 5:18).)
