The Painful Presence of Immanuel

Series: God With Us: Then, Now, and Always Passage: Luke 2:34–38, Matthew 2:13–23

Read: Luke 2:34-38 & Matthew 2:13-23

  1. Even with all the joy of the Messiah being born, why do you think there was so much pain involved?
  2. How could it be said that Mary’s own soul would figuratively be “pierced” with a sword?
  3. How are Herod‘s evil acts representative of the intensity of spiritual battle surrounding God‘s redemption plan?
  4. Why do people reject, resist, and recoil from Jesus and the Word when times get tough but not when times are good?
  5. When has your testimony been “I can’t see the whole story but I’m trusting God through the pain”? How have you experienced His sweet Providence and blessed comfort even when it hurts?
