Choosing Ignorance

"If anybody thinks he is a prophet or spiritually gifted, let him acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord's command. But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant." 1 Cor. 14: 48 NIV

The recipients of Paul's letter knew exactly what he was saying, but refused to acknowledge that it had the force of God's command. We place ourselves at peril like some in the church at Corinth if we try to pick and choose what passages in the Bible are inspired of God. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Tim.3:16). The readers had read what Paul said about spiritual gifts but were ignoring it. When we doubt, neglect, or ignore the Word of God, we place ourselves in jeopardy of losing our will to obey our first love and our primary means of spiritual growth. Paul was in no mood to debate naysayers and is instructing the true believers to ignore them.
