"So I tell you this and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as do the Gentiles do in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.” Eph. 4:17, 18 NIV

Here, Paul mentions two of the four conditions that are common of an ungodly life style. First, the minds of the ungodly are shrouded in spiritual darkness, unable to produce a true godly lifestyle. Second, unbelievers are spiritually separated from God, thus powerless, not knowing nor empowered by God's truth. Many in willful ignorance harden their hearts against the light of the gospel. Paul warns us not to return to pre-Christ living when we indulged in fulfilling "the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life" (1 Jo. 2:16). We are to reckon the "old man" as dead to sin. Let's resolve to leave him buried where he belongs.
