Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions about Grace Orange Academy. For any further questions not addressed below, email academy@graceorange.org.

What is the statement of faith for Grace Orange Academy?

As a ministry of Grace Church of Orange, we have adopted the doctrinal statement of Grace Church of Orange.

We believe that, while imperfect, this statement encompasses a sufficient summary of the Bible’s teaching on key issues. While we do not require that parents and students agree with all of these doctrinal positions, they must agree to support Grace Orange Academy in teaching them to the students.

What are some of the goals of Grace Orange Academy?

  • Train students to understand the major storyline and theology of the Bible and interpret reality through a holistically God-centered framework.
  • Cultivate a deep, abiding love for Christ and His Word in the students.
  • Cultivate wonder and interest in God’s word and His world.
  • Support Christian families in embedding a biblical worldview as the foundation to their children’s education.
  • Provide instruction from Grace Orange pastors and elders to assist parents in providing the most robust theological education possible for their children.

What format does Grace Orange Academy follow?

Grace Orange Academy functions as a ministry of Grace Church of Orange. We have chosen to provide specific courses covering Bible, theology, and worldview free of charge to assist parents in giving their children the best theological education possible without incurring extra costs.

For the Fall 2023 semester we plan to meet once per week on the campus of Grace Church of Orange.

What ages are eligible to enroll in Grace Orange Academy?

Classroom age breakdowns are yet to be finalized based on signups, but we are currently considering grades 4-12.

What are the benefits of the Grace Orange Academy model?

By offering courses free of charge and not operating as a private school we…

  • Best meet the needs of our congregation at the lowest time and financial cost to both the church and the parents.
  • Will continue to operate outside of government intervention. Because we offer courses for free we are no different in the eyes of the government than any other activity of the church.
  • Will support parents by utilizing the training our pastors already have to provide high quality theological education.
  • Allow families the potential to enjoy our courses no matter what style of schooling they have chosen.

Where will Grace Orange Academy meet?

We will meet on the campus of Grace Church of Orange. The exact rooms have not yet been finalized.

What courses will be offered?

You can find our full scope and sequence at the bottom of this page, but the currently proposed courses will cover topics such as (only 1 course per age group will run per term),

  • Engaging Wisely with Culture (Arts and Media)
  • A Theology of Manhood and Womanhood

My child attends private/public school but I would love for them to attend is this possible?

We are currently exploring options that would allow students permission to attend the courses as “off-campus instruction.” As we get more details on this we will keep you updated.

What is the leadership structure of Grace Orange Academy?

As a ministry of Grace Church of Orange, Grace Orange Academy is under the authority of the pastors and elders of Grace Church of Orange. Practically a group of pastors and administrators will be assigned to ensure the healthy day to day function of the Academy.

What is the cost?

Free. Grace Church of Orange views this as a ministry of the church and as such wants to provide instruction in the Scriptures and a biblical worldview at no cost to the families of Grace Church and wider christian community.

Who can enroll and when?

Applications are open to all Christian families (you do not have to attend Grace Church of Orange). Enrollment will close on August 30, 2023. Depending on the age levels and attendance we may choose to group certain grades or have to cut certain grades altogether. Our aim is to start small and slowly add courses as time goes on. We apologize if this means we cannot yet offer a course for your child’s age group.

What are the enrollment steps?

The following steps must be completed before the start of term…

What kind of curriculum/instruction should I expect?

You can view the Grace Orange Academy Scope and Sequence at the bottom of this page. Courses will vary depending on the age range and the term. Classes normally include 25-35 minutes of instruction followed by group discussion, or similar educational activites.

No. However there will be a standard of dress that we expect of students that is appropraite for an educational setting.

Does Grace Orange Academy assign homework?

Generally we will provide optional at home assignments for any students who want to pursue deeper study, but do not require any homework outside of class.

Grace Orange Academy Scope and Sequence (subject to change)

We have chosen to structure the program in a fashion that allows students to recieve instruction in multiple "passes." If a student attends GOA for multiple years they may cover the entire bible 2-3 times, but with deepening levels of detail. Further this allows students who only participate for a short time to still recieve a significant amount of exposure to biblical texts and themes. The following is simply a proposed plan that will be adjusted each school year.

  • OT Overview I and II
  • NT Overview I and II
  • How to Study Your Bible/ Hermeneutics
  • Christian Living
  • Stewardship and Personal Productivity
  • Church History Overview I and II
  • Outreach and Missions
  • Theology of Vocation and Servanthood
  • Engaging Wisely with Culture (Arts and Media)
  • A Theology of Manhood and Womanhood
