UPDATE FOR 3/30/2020
Hello Women of Grace!
Have you been discouraged lately? It’s easy to feel down about external circumstances or about our own sinful response to the pressures we face. James, the half-brother of Jesus, wrote to dispersed Jewish believers facing deadly persecution. Despite their dire situation, he told them to “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” (James 1:2-5). Discouragement is a more natural response to trials than joy, but Scripture tells us how to think when faced with the realities of our broken world; We must make a conscious decision to think of our trials with joy since they are transforming us into the likeness of Christ. If we had our way, our lives would be carefree. But God’s way is better. His way shows us our brokenness and then points us to Christ. He is rescuing us from ourselves. Let’s choose to be glad about it.
Here’s what we have planned for you right now:
- You should be receiving a regular Women's Ministry update email.
- A Facebook group has been created for the women of GCO to post encouragement, prayer requests, etc. This is a closed group for women in our own GCO family. Find the link for it HERE .
- The Women's Ministry team will be reaching out by telephone to connect with you individually. However, if you have a question, need something, or want to talk, please feel free to contact the church office (714-633-8867) and we will call you back as soon as possible. The office staff is monitoring phone messages.
- Daily opportunities for Face-to-face times for women to drop in and share, chat, and pray are scheduled daily via Zoom. (Zoom works best if you download the app on your computer). Here’s the schedule for the week of 3/29:
- Spring studies are starting in April and will meet via Zoom.
Thursday mornings- 9:30-11:30am, lead by Jill Martin. This group will be studying 1 Peter by Jen Wilkin beginning this Thursday, April 2. Contact Jill Martin with questions or to let her know you are joining HERE. The Zoom link to join the actual study on Thursday morning is HERE.
Thursday evenings- 7:00-9pm, lead by Diane Gnewuch. The spring study will be on "Suffering and the Sovereignty of God," by John Piper and Justin Taylor, beginning this Thursday, April 2. Here is a link to purchase the book, if you would like: https://www.desiringgod.org/books/suffering-and-the-sovereignty-of-god
Friday mornings- 9:00-11am, lead by Julie Sorensen. This group is continuing its current series and will begin a new series on April 10 by R.C. Sproul on "The Assurance of Salvation". It addresses the importance of living in pursuit of holiness and the doctrine of assurance. Contact Julie Sorensen for materials and a link to join the Zoom meeting HERE.
We realize that some of us are less comfortable with using technology than others. If you want to participate in a Bible Study or meet during the scheduled times on Zoom but need help with setting it up, just let us know and someone will be happy to walk you through it. If you would like a Zoom tutorial, click HERE.
The Women’s Ministry team is so thankful for you. Remember that we are still a family even though we are physically separated right now.

Encourage… Equip… Excite!
Our desire is to see each woman prepared for works of service in both home and church, to see the body of Christ built up, and for people to reach unity and maturity in the faith.
“so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy”. (Colossians 1:10–11)
