The Perfect Word and the God-pleasing Believer

(4/25/21 sermon post-script blog post)

What if you are the one who seeks to be pleasing to God in all your ways and you cling to the Word every day? What if you are the person that’s in the Word all the time? You know you aren’t perfect but you want to please God and you are living your life carefully and for God’s glory. You confess your sins, you walk in repentance, and you seek to love all people.

Basically, you are a doer of the Word not just a hearer. How do you take a sermon on carefully heeding the perfect Word of God and cautiously handling the words of man, while knowing you’re not an unbeliever and that you haven’t wandered from the faith?

Well, you take it as it stands, believe the bare Word of God. Solomon is giving a huge warning to everyone — to apply on an ongoing basis — to not fall from your own steadfastness. Pride comes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. Always be careful with the Word of God and cautious with the words of man. If you want to do the will of God stick very closely to the Word of God. And keep doing what you’re doing with a humble heart, dependent on God for His grace and mercy.
