God’s Truth for Trying Times - 4/8/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ:

“For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:22-31‬)

CONSIDER: It is so easy for us to feel weak yet try to feel powerful. We try all kinds of unwise things to make ourselves feel better. Sometimes we spend so much of our time trying to feel powerful when we really feel weak. I guess I would just say, why don’t we just lean into our weakness, and realize that God is strong and trust in His strength? Kind of like Paul telling the Ephesians, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and the strength of his might” (Eph. 6:10). Kind of like Paul told the Corinthian’s “when I am weak then I am strong.” God’s grace is sufficient. Rely on His strength, not your weakness.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?

PRAY:‬‬ Pray these verses to God as a prayer. Pour out your heart in praise to God. Pray for others. Present needs to Him.
