God’s Truth for Trying Times - 12/15/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: Psalm 53

"The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good. God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. Have those who work evil no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God? There they are, in great terror, where there is no terror! For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you; you put them to shame, for God has rejected them. Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad." (Psalm 53:1-6 ESV)

CONSIDER: God does not say that the fool is unintelligent, God says the fool is morally bankrupt; he does not do good. God sees that and knows that. He knows that there is none that does good not even one. God alone is good. Our only hope of salvation is God, our only hope of restoration and deliverance is the Lord Jesus Christ who died in our place on the cross, paying the penalty our sins deserved.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
