God’s Truth for Trying Times - 7/22/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 2 Thessalonians 3:6-9

Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate. [2 Thessalonians 3:6-9 ESV]

CONSIDER: True believers bear the fruit of purposeful living that contributes to the common good. As the old saying goes, Idleness is the devil's workshop. Idleness must not be imitated, it must be rejected. We must imitate what is good.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
