God’s Truth for Trying Times - 8/19/20

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: ‬ ‭‬‬2 Timothy‬ ‭4:9-15‬ ‭‬‬

“Do your best to come to me soon. For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry. Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message.”

‭‭(2 Timothy‬ ‭4:9-15‬)

CONSIDER: Paul intensely wanted Timothy to come to him.  He had Luke with him but he had the pain of knowing that someone had deserted. And others were in other fields. He dearly wanted his books. And above all the Scriptures. He also wanted to remind Timothy to be careful around an enemy of the faith. Those who strongly oppose the gospel have no part in the gospel. We are to hold firmly to the faith and word entrusted to us.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
