God’s Truth for Trying Times - 8/22/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: James 3:4-5a

Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. [James 3:4-5a ESV] 

CONSIDER: Our words are regulated by our hearts, as Jesus said "the mouth speaks out of the which fills the heart". Here the tongue is compared to a writer that drives a ship according to the will of the pilot. The tongue (the source of our words) while small, does big things.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
