God’s Truth for Trying Times - 8/9/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: James 2:5-7

Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called? [James 2:5-7 ESV]

CONSIDER: James is showing the foolish folly of deciding people's worth by outward appearance. He is showing how we can be deceived so easily by our own sinful hearts, thinking that someone is important and better than others, even when they are leading a ungodly and evil life.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
