God’s Truth for Trying Times - 9/22/21

We need God’s truth in trying times. Read the Scripture passage, think about what it is saying, then pray; by yourself or with your household. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16).

READ: 1 John 2:3-6

And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says "I know him" but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. [1 John 2:3-6 ESV]

CONSIDER: Here's the supreme test for whether we truly know Jesus or not, whether we are truly a believer or not, whether we have truly experienced the new birth or not. If we are claiming to be a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, that means that he truly is the Lord of our life and we obey what he commands. If he is the supreme master of our life and we obey him and that is how his love is evidenced in our life.

THINK: What does this declare about God? What are God’s people being called to do? What assurance is given? How does the Word of God transform our hearts and lives and relationships?
