What it Takes to Grow in Christ
If you're going to grow in Christ then some obvious things need to be present… God's Word and prayer, reliance on the Holy Spirit, obedience to God, and a heart that desires to actively worship God.
Growing in Christ takes His Sovereign working AND your focused effort.
Growing in Christ is not self plus God or the flesh plus God or merely tacking God on to an already full life. It is Christ in you, transforming you by His Spirit through His Word. It is God empowering you to live pleasing to Him. It is God transforming you with your active cooperation. You must be engaged in the process as the Holy Spirit powerfully works in and through you for His glory.
God's miraculous working. We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works. (Ephesians 2:8-10). Those works are inspired and empowered by God.
As Paul says in 1 Thess 1:3-5 "...constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father, knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you; for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction.
And also in 2 Thess 1:11-12 "To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."
Growth in Christ takes God's power and our participation.
