Politics and Christian Community

August 30, 2020 Speaker: Mike Sciarra Series: Living in Light of Dying

Topic: Living in Light of Dying Passage: Ecclesiastes 4:13–16

Sermon Application Questions:

  1. What importance and perspective does God put on politics and what are Christians to remember as they engage?
  2. What is God’s view on human popularity?
  3. What is the relation between age and wisdom/foolishness?
  4. How prevalent are your personal political views in your life and interactions? (In the driver’s seat - shapes everything about you including your view of Scripture? In the passenger seat - maybe a little too close for comfort? In the back seat - appropriately placed? In the trunk - disinterested, don’t care or think much about it?)
  5. How valuable and lasting is popularity (vv. 13–16)? In what ways do you think Christians who become famous or popular can use their influence for the furtherance of the Gospel? What negative side effects might need to be avoided?
  6. At what point might our political views become validly oppressive to fellow Christians? How might Christians navigate this most wisely and in a Christ-honoring way?
  7. How might you best display the truth of the Gospel and redeem the time for Jesus as it pertains to politics, popularity, and other people?
