The Denier Denied His Denial
It's so interesting how Peter so adamantly denied that he would deny Jesus.
Not the one to admit culpability, he throws his fellow disciples under the bus to boot and insists on his own faithfulness. How nearsighted, and hard of hearing! Jesus said it would happen.
Peter says, "No, you don't know what you are talking about!" To Jesus even! Wow. Sure, it's easy to see the Peter in us. But look a little closer and you will see something far greater: God's faithfulness.
That is really the point of Matthew 26:30-35, God cannot deny Himself. Everything He says in His Word, every salvation promise, every claim to care for His own, will be fulfilled. It will all come true. There is no doubt whether God will come through in the clutch. He remains faithful. For that we can praise Him with all our hearts.
