"Poor Me": The Self Pity Syndrome
"Have I sinned? What have I done to you, O watcher of men? Why have you set me as your target, so that I am a burden to myself?" Job 7:20 KJV
The "what have I done to deserve this?" attitude is often a feeble declaration of one's innocence or an inference that God is too severe and unfair in His dealings with us. Neither is true! Man is not innocent; nor is God unfair or unjust. Fallen man's perception of fairness and justice is irrefutably flawed. The understanding and application of true justice and fairness resides with God alone. At this stage of Job's suffering he deeply felt that God was without cause, unfairly picking on him. If you feel as did Job that God is using you for target practice, not so! You, like Job, will have a clearer picture of God and your own heart for having gone through the trial. No amount of suffering, however egregious we feel it to be, justifies our questioning God's sovereign actions.
