A Prisoner, But Free To Love

"I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that you walk (live) worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love." Eph. 4:1-2

Paul, writing from prison, demonstrates to believers at Ephesus that living a godly life can be at a great personal cost. "Walking" in the book of Ephesians refers to one's daily conduct. To "walk worthy" means to live as to demonstrate one's position in Christ. Humility is fundamental to Christian virtue. Gentleness or meekness naturally flows from humility. Longsuffering (patience) is the fruit of both. The above virtues being true in our lives, we will be able to "bear with one another in love." Putting up with one another without love is impossible. Simply put, the apostle Paul is exhorting us to walk the talk.
