"Examine me O Lord, and prove me; try my mind and my heart. For Your loving-kindness is before my eyes, and I have walked in Your truth." Psalm 26:3

David in this Psalm with bold confidence invites God to examine his heart and mind. The Bible makes it definitively clear that "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he" (Prov. 23:7). The cleansed heart is the gyroscope that keeps us on track so we don't deviate from God's truth. What is in your heart is who you are, and therefore, what you become. What was the basis for David's confidence that he would pass God's examination of him with "flying colors”? He never lost sight of God's loving-kindness. That is one of the keys to living out God's truth in our daily lives. Lose sight of the Lord's loving-kindness, and you lose the will to live by His truth.
