"And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and 12 pillars according to the 12 tribes of Israel.” Ex. 24:4; NKJ

Whatever happened to the altars that used to be at the front of most Bible believing churches? They have all but disappeared. No "mourner's bench" for repentant sinners in the tents of evangelistic campaigns. No "saw dust" trail where at the end you could meet Jesus. Moses and the people are about to pledge their submission to every stipulation in the book of the covenant containing all the civil, social, and religious laws given by God and received by Moses on Mt. Sinai. His senses on tilt from that dramatic event and emotionally drained, Moses feels compelled to build an altar. Oh, that we would feel the same urgency! Altars are a speechless appeal to repent and surrender one's life to the Lord. Bring back the altars!
