We want absolution without confession. We are too high, too proud, too sufficient. Like unreasoning animals, unless the Lord breaks our stubborn pride we are sentenced to ourselves. Pure grace rescues us from putrid, rotting unrepentant sin festering in the bowels of our hearts. Jesus listens to the heart that do not cherish sin.
