God Can Use Nobodies

"I was no prophet, nor was I a son of a prophet, but I was a sheep breeder and a grower of sycamore figs, but the Lord took me from following the flock and said to me, "Go prophesy to My people Israel.’" Amos 7:14, 15

Amos did not have an impressive resume nor was he seeking the position of a prophet. He was content with serving God as a breeder of sheep and caring for a fig orchard. God saw the righteous flame in his heart and had greater things in mind for Amos. Materialism, idolatry, and social wickedness characterized the times. God gives Amos a direct call to become a prophet and prophesy the coming judgment of God against Israel and urges the people to repent. Do what you're currently doing as unto the Lord, but be open to His leading you to an even higher calling.
