"Wherein you greatly rejoice though now for a season, if need be, you are in heaviness because of many temptations." 1 Pet. 1:6 KJV

The Bible teaches that both rejoicing and melancholy can reside in the heart and life of a believer simultaneously. Who of us has not experienced these two seemingly contradictory emotions? The "wherein" that brings rejoicing refers to the preceding verses in this chapter which speak of God's mercy, our new birth, Christ's resurrection, our inheritance in Him, and protection by God until the coming of our Lord for believers. The "heaviness" is a result of current multiple trials. Remember, God controls the necessity, type, and duration of our trials. Dwelling on the things "wherein you can greatly rejoice” will counter-act and minimize the heaviness.
