"In hope, he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, 'So shall your offspring be.'” Romans 4:18

What does it mean to "in hope" believe "against hope"? That's a tricky sounding thing. I'm not sure I grasp it fully but here is what I do know: sometimes something seems so impossible that believing it seems ridiculous. Sometimes there are things God says He will do that require us to take action that seem to others unwise. That is why it takes God-given faith and God-assured hope to live the Christian life. It is humanly impossible.
